Charlie Puth releases today his debut album Nine Track Mind via Atlantic Records. It features his two hit singles See You Again feat. Wiz Khalifa (for the Furious 7 soundtrack) and Marvin Gaye (feat. Meghan Trainor). Charlie also teams up with Selena Gomez on the very sexy track We Don’t Talk Anymore.

The album is burning, sophisticated while keeping some originality from the start without falling into a boring mainstream music. The arrangements are fine. Marrying the pop, the soul, the urban with a R & B flavor and jazzy influences, Charlie Puth really delivers a remarkable collection of songs for a beginning. He carved a well-accomplished soundtrack of his life, soulful and eclectic in a cohesive way. One Call Away is a contemporary pop-soul infused gospel. A strong opener that people can relate to. Dangerously is a mid-tempo piano ballad immediately engaging.

Puth revisits the past by adding his own spin on Suffer. It is delivered with soul and passion. The retro meets the modern and his collaboration with singer/songwriter/producer Shy Carter who lends his voice on As You Are, is a smoky result. It sounds fresher than ever. Track Marvin Gaye reminds you of  Marvin Gaye‘s 1973 hit Let’s Get It On . The harmonies with Meghan Trainor are lovely. Losing My Mind displays another facet of his signature style. The tune is  an instant anthem, oscillating between uplifting and dark atmosphere. It is about losing your sanity. My Gospel sees Charlie showing a new side of his talent. It incorporates playful beats, infectious rhythms that fit with the craziness of love evoked by the lyrics. A modern urban jam definitely on repeat. Then There’s You is another anthem , fusing modern pop and R & B, classy and stylized.

All in all, Nine Track Mind is an essential listen for any music lovers. It is just a beginning but it is already very promising. Charlie Puth takes the pop soul at another level. The result is a well-balanced mix of style, class , and melody while keeping the things subtly nostalgic and modern.
