House of Gold & Bones Part 1 The Overture Comic Book Review

House of Gold & BonesHouse of Gold & Bones Part 1 The Overture is available  via Dark Horse Comics digitally (or through their app) and in your favorite comic book retailer. Written by Stone Sour frontman Corey Taylor, it features artwork by Richard Clark and colors by Dan Jackson. At the end of the comic, there’s an except from Corey Taylor ‘s upcoming  book A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to Heaven.

The hero, The Human protagonist  is thrown into an alternate reality loaded of darkness. He is pursued by a horde of strange entities and finds refuge in a little house. He meets Allen.. The Hero “Zero” undertakes a perilous journey to find the House of Gold & Bones before managing to go home..

The story is inspired by the double musical concept album of the same name. It also refers to some songs from the record. Corey Taylor does an excellent job to blend suspense and mystery in a perfect manner. The plot itself brings many questions but it works to perfection. You let yourself get caught up in the story which is easy to follow. It lives up to your expectations. It is both intriguing and original. Was this comic book from the concept album imaginable. Sure , but , personally, I didn’t know what to expect. I was surprised.  The storytelling is not traditional and too complex and it is awesome. The dialogue is natural and effective. Plus, the artwork carries the storyline without overwhelming it. The art and story  are fusional with a protagonist truly expressive and emotionally real with a touch of dark humor.  I like the panel  “lovely” page 17 and the final visual at the end.

House of Gold & Bones first part is a strong beginning. All in all, it is an enjoyable read. The twist that comes at the conclusion of the first issue is exciting. By the way, it is worthy your time.
